DURHAM, N.C. – Isidore Jackson and Eddie Poole each scored a touchdown and set a school record as No. 13/12 Bethune-Cookman downed North Carolina Central 38-14 Saturday at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium.
Jackson rushed for 182 yards and became the Wildcats' all-time leader rusher with a four-yard gain on B-CU's opening play of the second half. He now has 2,978 yards, surpassing Allen Suber's 2000-03 total of 2,897.
Poole's first catch, a six-yarder from Quentin Williams on the second possession of the first quarter, extended his pass catching streak to 44 games, eclipsing James Adderley's mark of 43 from 1994-98.
Williams threw for 120 yards, including a 31-yard second quarter touchdown to Poole, and the Wildcats (8-1 overall, 5-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) extended their conference winning streak to 18 games. This was also B-CU's ninth straight road MEAC win and fourth straight over the Eagles.
The Wildcat defense held the Eagles (4-5,2-3) to 137 total yards. The Eagles managed fourth quarter scores on a 100-yard Thomas Dixon kickoff return and a six-yard Kevin Thompson run with 3:48 remaining.
After squandering an early scoring opportunity, B-CU got on the board on a three-yard Cary White run with 1:17 remaining in the first quarter.
B-CU took a 14-0 second quarter lead when Williams avoided the rush and found a wide-open Poole over the middle for the score with 11:46 left in the first half. Jonathan Cagle added a 31-yard field goal to extend the Wildcats' halftime lead to 17-0.
Jackson made it 24-0 on a nine-yard run with 8:19 remaining in the third quarter. After an interception by lineman Rony Barrow, Jackson set up his score with a 32-yard speed option pitch.
Michael Jones added a fourth-quarter 3-yard touchdown and freshman Dre'Sean Nelson a 75-yarder for the Wildcats, who finished with a season-high 594 total yards.
Nick Addison had an interception for the B-CU defense. Nesly Marcellon, Erik Williams, Tevin Toney and Dyron Dye registered sacks.
B-CU hosts Norfolk State next Saturday at 4 p.m.
