DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Football conducted the first controlled scrimmage of the 2017 fall camp Saturday morning at the Wildcats Practice Fields on the campus of BCU. Saturday also represented the final day of
Chaos for the Maroon and Gold on the famed Daytona Beach sand and ocean water, respectfully.
Â
After group work for almost 30 minutes, the Wildcats took to the main practice field to run through the first live-action scrimmage of the year. Temperatures for the scrimmage were at 89 degrees, as the humidity was at 69 percent. Winds were dull, coming out of the east southeast at just three miles per hour off the ocean. However, a relief from the heat was felt slightly as clouds hovered through the entire practice/scrimmage.
Â
In the scrimmage, things were performed a little differently, as the first team defense was matched up against the second team offense.
Â
The defense was clicking on all cylinders, forcing three coverage sacks and getting to the quarterback ion two occasions without a pass rush on, per say.
Â
Afterwards, Head Coach
Terry Sims and defensive lineman
Kevin Thompson met with members of the media about the scrimmage. Thompson (Baltimore, Md.), a preseason All-MEAC selection, 6-4, 230-pound redshirt senior, produced 34 tackles a season ago for the Maroon and Gold, using 14 solo stops combined with 24 assisted tackles. He pulled in a team-best 9.5 tackles behind the line, as well as two quarterback sacks.
Â
BCU continues camp on Sunday back on the Wildcats Practice Fields at 10 a.m.
