Montgomery, Ala. – The Wildcats threatened all afternoon, but struggled to seal the deal as they dropped the rubber match to Alabama State, 3-2, Sunday in Montgomery.
How It Happened
After a brief weather delay, the Wildcats (19-24, 13-8 SWAC) scored on some small ball to open the afternoon when
Irvin Escobar crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
Alabama State (24-17, 15-4 SWAC) tied the game in the fourth on an RBI single and took the lead in the fifth on a solo home run.
Frank Febles brought the Wildcats even again in the sixth with an RBI single that scored Escobar.
The Hornets opened the bottom of the sixth with a double. They advanced the runner on a bunt – he later scored on a wild pitch to put Alabama State up for good at 3-2.
The Wildcats left 13 men on base, stranding at least one batter in all but the first inning. In the final four innings, B-CU stranded two runner.
Hector Vazquez made the start and took the loss to drop to 4-4 on the season. In 5.1 innings, he allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Dale Michaud and
Knickolas Billings finished out the evening, allowing a hit and two walks with a pair of strikeouts between them over 2.2 innings
