Rodriguez Pitches Two-Hitter - B-CU Beats UNF 11-1 On Senior Night

Sophomore left hander Samuel Rodriguez pitched a two-hit, nine-inning complete game victory to lead B-CU on Senior Night to an 11-1 win over the University of North Florida.

 

Rodriguez  (1-3) struck out 13 Osprey batters, including five of the last six hitters, getting stronger in the late innings - B-CU's first nine-inning complete game win of the season.

 

The Wildcats (27-24) had 13 hits including a 3-4 night for Alejandro Jimenez who knocked in two runs with a double and a home run to pace the offense.

 

Jimenez broke up a scoreless game in the fourth inning with an opposite field solo home run to left.  Senior Aaron Patterson had a two-run single in the fourth to give B-CU a 3-0 lead.

 

Rodriguez was pitching a no-hitter into the fifth inning and the Ospreys scored an un-earned run in the fifth to make the score 3-1. UNF hitter TJ Thompson had both hits, singles in the fifth and ninth innings.

 

North Florida (19-27) beat then #13 ranked Miami last week 10-1 and UNF also has wins over Florida State and Florida this season.

 

The Wildcats broke open the game scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth highlighted by RBI doubles from Jimenez and Jeremy Davis.

 

Peter O'Brien hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to make the score 8-1 and the Wildcats added three more runs in the eighth made the final count 11-1 on RBI hits from Chris Brown.

 

Nine B-CU seniors were honored before the game - B-CU's final regular home game. The Wildcats play at Jacksonville University Wednesday and then play a three-game series at #19 Miami Hurricanes Friday-Sunday in Miami.

 

B-CU hosts the 2009 MEAC Baseball Championship at Jackie Robinson Ballpark May 14-17, - the `Cats shoot for their fourth straight MEAC title and automatic NCAA Regional berth.
